D'origine chinoise, Yadong Guan a commencé l'étude du pipa à l'âge de 7 ans et a complété sa formation universitaire en musique avec le maître Lin Shi Cheng, artiste et pédagogue réputé. En 1996, année de sa graduation, elle remporte le premier prix du Concours national des étudiants en art. Depuis, elle fut choisie plusieurs fois pour participer à des échanges culturels et s'est distinguée dans divers concours, tant comme virtuose du pipa que comme compositrice.

Titulaire d'un grand prix ministériel, honorée par la Conférence mondiale des femmes de l'ONU, Yadong Guan a de plus participé à plusieurs émissions diffusées par la Télévision nationale de Chine et fut invitée à animer des cours de pipa sur un document vidéo distribué à Taiwan et à Hong Kong.

Élue Miss de la capitale par l'Association des femmes de Beijing, sa ville natale, cette artiste du pipa a consacré un disque au répertoire traditionnel de son instrument. Arrivée au Canada en 1997, Yadong Guan a complété des études de 2e cycle en composition à la Faculté de musique de l'Université Laval en 2002, tout en explorant le répertoire occidental pouvant s'adapter à son instrument.

In 1996, when she graduated, she won the first prize of National Art Student Contest. From this moment, she has been selected many times to participate in cultural exchanges and distinguished herself in various exchanges and distinguished herself in various contests as a Pipa virtuoso as well as a composer.

Moreover, as a ministerial prize recipient, honored by the UN's World Women's Conference, Yadong Guan has participated in several television broadcasts by the China National Television and been invited to give Pipa lessons for a video that is distributed in Taiwan and Hong Kong. 

Elected Miss Capital by the Women Association of Beijing, her native city, this Pipa artist has devoted a record to the traditional repertoire of her instrument.
